Sometimes all we need is a little push to take our exercise routine to a different level. Taking a class with a few other gals is sometimes just the push we need. BoxFit is a combination of boxing, Muay Thai, martial arts, skipping and strength training to funky music to get fighting fit! Classes are suitable for women all shapes, ages and levels. The BeFit instructor will tailor the class to your ability and you can progress at your own pace. NEW ACTIVITY: This project is for Advanced Quilters who want to learn the technique of confetti piecing. Discover how to create a landscape in fabric. You'll be amazed as you create a stunning piece of textile art with the unique "no rules" technique. In the Confetti Landscape workshop, learn how you can replicate a scene with a wonderful three-dimensional quality and textured soft lines. The teachers at the Quilt Shop will guide each student through the process. 15% discount at the shop for additional purchases. Bring a bag lunch.

AWCS is excited to announce we are pairing up with Caroline from Caroline Barr Photography to capture your families time in Shanghai. Caroline will be taking portraits in the garden area of the historic Confucian Temple along side the pond, elms and Kuixing Pagoda. Be a part of this unique opportunity to have a portrait taken of you and your family in a fun and relaxed manner. Come dressed as you feel comfortable, whether the attire is Western or Eastern. One week after your session a convenient time and location will be arranged for pick up of print.

A fun technique - also known as Rope Weave - that allows a 3-dimensional creation and a more voluptuous look for a bracelet or a necklace. With creativity and imagination, we can explore using different sizes, colored and textured stones in making amazing jewelry for any occasions.

Samantha Lim is a Jewelry Designer whose jewelry pieces are sold and showcased around the world. Her works are currently showcased at Shangri-La Pudong, XINTIANDI Shanghai, Wuhan and FuShan, and at Shiozawa Gallery in Tokyo. In the United States, her works can be found at Los Altos SF, Monterey CA, and New York. Samantha is also teaching at the Expat Learning Centre in Shanghai.

New York Fashion Week Documentary and Q&A: "The Tents" with Lynne O'Neill, Fashion Show Producer Extraordinaire

Join us for a delightful and rare opportunity to meet a behind the scenes expert of New York Fashion Week. Lynne O'Neill, fashion show and event producer, is in Shanghai for one week and has agreed to host a viewing of "The Tents" a documentary following the history of the fashion shows in the tents at Bryant Park during their 18-year reign as NYC’s fashion hub. The documentary is 1 hr. 20 min followed by 30 minutes Q&A with Lynne, who is interviewed in the film, and will be able to share intricate knowledge of all that is Fashion Week.

This is a casual gathering during lunch time so feel free to bring your own version of a brown bag lunch. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

It is this time of the year again….What better way to wish everyone a great summer or say Good Bye to good friends than with a nice evening out. New Walk for AWCS! This section of town is one of the nicest parts of pre-War Shanghai. Stately mansions, Art Deco apartment blocks and attractive green spaces define a leafy suburb-like feel, just several miles from the busy Bund waterfront and the crowded Old City. Most of these streets are quiet, and their building design treasures are accessible to passers-by. On this walk we will discuss the former residents and architects who created this slower-paced piece of Shanghai, as well as examine how it is changing in the modern era.

In today's class Valerie will teach us how to tie a versatile Chinese knot called Snake Knot and create a lovely choker with this knot. Once you learn how to tie the knot, you can apply the knot for other accessories such as bracelet, napkin holder etc. All materials are provided. Valerie has taught jewelry classes in Shanghai and Hong Kong. She designs jewelry with a mix of semi-precious stones, pearl and jade.

Come discover a hidden artistic haven in Puxi! Join us for an exploration through a very funky yet chic space filled with pubic outdoor sculptures and art galleries. Art Historian Julie Chun will deliver an insightful lecture on the historical trajectory and significance of public sculpture and discuss how it acquired its identity in China. After the lecture, you will be provided ample time to roam and engage with the sculpture, explore the Sculpture Space, browse the quaint boutiques and have lunch at one of the many cafes in Red Town.
