government organizations

Government organiztions are often the first place to find information!

  • AMERICAN CONSULATE IN SHANGHAI

    Provides a wide range of services for Americans. Located at 1038 W Nanjing Rd - Westgate 8th floor. (Appointments required for all non-emergency services)

    The Consulate encourages all U.S. citizens living or traveling abroad to enroll in the Department of State's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), to receive the latest travel updates and information and to obtain updated information on travel and security issues. https://travelregistration.state.gov

    The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a secure online travel registration website which will allow you, as an American citizen, to record foreign trip and residence information that the Department of State can use to communicate and assist you, in case of an emergency.

  • AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: SHANGHAI

    Supports the success of its members by promoting a healthy business environment in China.

  • CITY WEEKEND

    One of many free magazines available in stores, apartment complexes, and restaurants. A local guide to locations and events in Shanghai. Information is also available online.

    Also look for TIME OUT, THAT'S SHANGHAI, and other publications which offer similar information.

  • THE SHANGHAI DAILY

    Shanghai's local English language newspaper. Available at newstands and for home delivery.

    Proveds support and financial assistance to needy Chinese children who require heart surgery to repair congenital heart defects. Many volunteer opportunities are availale, including supervising hospital playrooms, fundraising, assembling bears sold for fundraising, and trips to local communities for follow-up care.

    A charity organization that facilitates the one-to-one educational sponsorship of underpriviliged students in Shanghai and its 19 districts.

  • BEAN SHANGHAI

    BEAN is geared primarily to professional individuals and couples, offering networking and volunteering opportunities tailored to accomodate your working schedules.

  • SHANGHAI EXPATRIATE ASSOCIATION

    A not-for-profit, multinational, member-based organization. The SEA was established to provide a social and cultural network for expats and their families in Shanghai. Along with AWCS, it is one of the largest groups of its kind in China.

  • SHANGHAI MAMAS

    An invaluable networking resource. Membership is free, but limited to families with children here in Shanghai. People can find everything from playgroups to help finding a good ayi.
